Greensleeves-영국민요

Greensleeves was originally composed by a commonfolk in England. His name is unknown. He wrote for a woman who was wearing sleeves of the colour green and he had some affection? for her. He did not know her name so he called the song "Greensleeves". This song became very popular even in churches. It is a common myth that the song was composed for Anne Bolyen by Henry VIII. This is untrue because the song was composed in an Italian style that reached England after Henry's death (around 1580).

Lyrics:
Alas my love you do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously;
And I have loved you oh so long
Delighting in your company.

Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.

I have been ready at your hand
To grant whatever thou would'st crave;
I have waged both life and land
Your love and goodwill for to have.

Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.

Thy petticoat of sendle white
With gold embroidered gorgeously;
Thy petticoat of silk and white
And these I bought gladly.

Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.
